When I think of Christmas cookies, I think of bright colors and fussiness.
And then I think of Matrimonial Bars.
Made with oatmeal and dates (and butter and sugar), they probably don’t appear in any Christmas cookie cookbooks. But in my family (the Canadian side) we always and only make them at the holidays.
Bonus: They’re quick, easy and irresistible.
You can find the recipe here.

These wonderful cookies always make it to the Christmas cookie plates in Nebraska.😊
I love hearing that, Julie! What do they call them there?
On the plains of Nebraska they are aptly named Date Bars- the Canadians win the creative name prize.
